Abstract
Postherpetic trigeminal neuropathy (PHTN) is a common complication of herpes zoster frequently affecting the ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve. PHTN is defined as neuropathic pain on facial distribution persisting at least 3 months after the appearance of the acute herpes zoster rash. The pathophysiology of PHTN is not well-established. The risk factors for PHTN are old age, severity of acute pain, ophthalmic involvement, and extent of herpes zoster rash. Multiplicitic approaches, topical treatments, systemic treatments, and interventions, are important to treat PHTN.
